Engineered Proscaf ringlock walkway spanning an empty settling pond at Flinders Port, Outer Harbour, delivered for head contractor CIP Constructions
Engineered Proscaf ringlock walkway spanning 32 metres across an empty settling pond at Flinders Port, Outer Harbour, delivered for head contractor CIP Constructions.

The job: safe pedestrian access across a 32-metre span of an empty settling pond at the Flinders Port container precinct, Outer Harbour, delivered for head contractor CIP Constructions. The route had to carry site staff and trades from the operational apron across the pond to the offices on the far side, without touching the pond base and without a ground foundation partway across the span.

The scaffold. A 32-metre engineered Proscaf ringlock walkway on supports at each end, spanning the pond in a single run. Load transfer calculated end to end, with the walkway deck held true across the full span. Standard Epic systems scaffold throughout, erected to AS/NZS 1576 and AS/NZS 4576.

Walkway span viewed along the deck. 32 lineal metres crossing the pond in a single engineered run.

Engineering. Signed off by DC Engineering (CPEng), reference DCE-DGN-EPC-3854-01/01. Basis of design against AS/NZS 1576 and AS/NZS 4576 scaffolding guidelines. Signed drawings held on file for the compliance pack.

Delivery. On site through the CIP Constructions programme, hire window 14 to 21 days.

Why Epic. When the only ground points are at the ends of the span and the obstacle in the middle is a pond that cannot be loaded, the solution has to be engineered before it is built. CIP Constructions had the drawings and the signed-off engineering pack before mobilisation.
